After reading the first chapter of Chris Brogan's & Julien Smith's book, Trust Agents: Using the Web to Build Influence, Improve Reputation, and Earn Trust I realized that many of us find the internet and technology abrasive and at points almost scary. Smith and Brogan mention that people who worked undercover in the olden days might have been at risk if they had to deal with the technology advancements of our time today. I find that today people sometimes only make a Facebook page or a LinkedIn to check up on others and in my mind that is not right. Why should a future employer need to look at a person's Facebook to see what they are like? How is this right?
The idea of people taking the time to use these social media outlets to check up on people just goes to show that privacy is not there and people must be aware of what they put up on their page's at all times. Why even have a Facebook if you can't put up things that you truly want up there? What's the point?
Although we need to do background checks, is going to people's Facebook pages really the place to be doing it?
